Taking my O.P slightly off topic, if you are fortunate and have a garage connected to the house, I would advise calling in the builders and converting the garage in to an extended kitchen, or additional living room space. This will both put value on your property and give you the comfort of more living space, also you will be the envy of all your neighbors.

I asked my son to stop playing football.
by The Rebel ini asked my son to stop playing football.
it was a simple kick about he was playing with a friend using the garage door as the goal.
i then went to my home and thought no more about it.

Witness My Fury, " I would have thought playing football onto a garage door would be very annoying..."
As a " nipper" when my boy was 4,5,6, years old, that garage door was more than a garage door. Even today it's more than a garage door, it's a place where we play other ball games. We also have a basket hoop near it. That garage door should be named " Our play door" because it has given so much more meaning and fun to my families life, than being simply a garage door....the dents and marks on a garage door, don't effect the value of the property, but the dents and marks on a garage door can be a place where a family shared love.

Why I admire the more risky O.P starters.
by The Rebel instarting an o.p is a challenge.the person who starts the o.p then relies on fellow posters to obtain feedback and hopefully keep the o.p, informative and positive.
so starting an o.p becomes " shared accountabilility" between o.p starter, and thread poster.. some o.p's will be more of a risk factor than others, because some topics are more controversial.
so when i start an o.p i now ask myself what is:-.

Great point " no zombie"
In my viewpoint most on the forum work as a team, appreciating the shared values that bought us here. I think we should all be here with those shared values and those that are are, are in my opinion the posters who have compassion to opposing views.
" no zombie" I love your phrase " free comment" In my opinion expressing a " free comment" should be an opportunity to review our thinking and if necessary change our thinking, ridicule to me is not part of the equation.Personally today I will play football with my son and tonight watch " Three colors blue" by Krzysztof Keislowski, with my wife, and so much more as well.
Our day should not be focused on one negative things, but the many positive things a day has to give. We are all here on this board, looking for a new start, we should not be haunted by the W.T and we should be here for support. Believe me this board has many posters, posting today that make my time here worthwhile. I would also suggest "no-zombie" what ever walk of life we are in, if we let the "few" spoil it with negativity we loose.
no-zombie, I now look forward to reading your past threads, because I am sure they will be one of those wonderful parts of my day.

Starting an O.P is a challenge. The person who starts the O.P then relies on fellow posters to obtain feedback and hopefully keep the O.P, informative and positive. So starting an O.P becomes " Shared accountabilility" between O.P starter, and thread poster.
Some O.P's will be more of a risk factor than others, because some topics are more controversial. So when I start an O.P I now ask myself what is:-
A) The desired outcome.
B) The undesired outcome.
Controlling the undesired outcomes, is an art, particularly if members are learning from the thread. Personally I try to search for reasons why my O.P has got undesired outcome.I think bad outcome occasionally happen's because :-
A) I start an O.P and am not their to reply to the comments, or manage the thread.
B) My O.P is crap, and my point of view is only that, my point of view without facts to back it up.
C) Occasionally posters are here not to learn and debate but to disturb and disrupt a thread.
But of the 124 O.P's I have started, ( Yes I need a life) I consider only two have become negative and argumentative. Therefore I am going to chance a third with this O.P, because I think this board has missed some of the more gutsy " Cofty" O.P's. I am talking about those O.P's that take a greater risk at upsetting others, but are also more informative, more educational and take more hassle to manage than my daily rumblings about art, birthday cards, and sugar cubes.
So as an often boring, cowdley member of the board, with this O.P I want to be courageous and acknowledge my appreciation for those less boring, those that start more risky O.P's.(Now who remembers my O.P " Won't get fooled again moon landing?" Over 500 pages of crap, I think I will stick with my less controversial O.P's like " God is Love" :-)

dudstepped " Poor is a state of mind" " I clean houses and have a good life..."
Brilliant words, and don't get me wrong, I just think when the government spends its (our) money on the poor, the money should be scrutinized and justified that it goes to those that don't abuse the system. As for our own personal wealth, it's in the mind and the life we live.

Diognesister, I agree with everything you said, except my ignorance. My point of view was not a blanket condemnation on those that get pregnant as a teen. My point was some chickens in England run about and got pregnant because they wanted a council house, the man was used as meat and the government to pay for it. Now those that did that are not the teen mums that you refer too. But the facts are if a teenager in England gets pregnant they are made for life, and many took that option, and that % was quite a high proportion of those given council houses. What do I base my % on? Those teenage girls from the period I grew up with as a teenager. As for your illustrations I don't have a problem with that, but the government should look at the cases individually, before giving free housing in affluent areas to those that abuse the system.

Jehovah's Witness / ex-JW Suicide Rate?
by Simon init's no secret that both remaining a jw or leaving the wts can take a toll on mental health.
some will suffer from depression and ultimately some will have thoughts of suicide and a few will succumb to those.. but i don't recall ever seeing any hard stats or studies on it though.
i'm sure we all know of some people who have committed suicide but i don't know if, because you may have loose association with a much larger pool of people through the religion, that this only seems higher or maybe not be actually higher than the general population.. what i mean is, you go to a kh here there maybe 100-150 people, you attend circuit and district conventions with many tens of thousands - if any one person commits suicide then you likely hear about it and it becomes part of the anecdotal 'evidence' that is then put forward as a fact that there is a higher rate ... but is there?.

I've got to get my head around the O.P. I had never thought about it like that.
i remember a guy that came to meetings, he was a smoker, a drinker, and yet he kicked the habits and got baptized. When he went back to smoking he was disfellowshipped. I was at best only 13 at the time. Now more mature I can say any organisation that treats members like that and says basically they are a waste of space and disfellowships them will have a high suicide rate.

I asked my son to stop playing football. It was a simple kick about he was playing with a friend using the garage door as the goal. I then went to my home and thought no more about it. However when I looked out the kitchen window 10 minutes later my son had disobeyed me and continued to play football. I was cross and asked him to come inside and game over. We then discussed the " disobedience" and Orlando said:-
" I often play football and use the garage door as a goal, so I didn't see why you said it" That was a great learning lesson for me. I should have said " We have moved our bicycles, they are now by the garage, so please don't play football here as you may hit the bikes with the ball".Anyway the cycles are no longer by the garage door, Orlando can continue to use the garage door as a goal, and in future when I ask my son to do something, I will explain why.
I learnt from this lesson that I also make the same mistake with my wife, friends and in business. Even on this board I often put my point of view across, but I fail to clarify my reasons. Am I alone in this?
